People Who Find People Are The Happiest People …

Our ongoing series of blog posts about recent changes in the Egowall user interface continues with a discussion of People and Connection Management.

Making New Connections

While it’s fun to use Egowall to showcase those things which make you unique, you can get even more benefit from these displays by connecting with friends, family and colleagues.

Then you can easily share your expressions of The Real You™ so that others you care about can learn more about your interests and accomplishments.

You can make connections with other Egowall members in two ways:

  • taking advantage of Egowall’s automated recommendations
  • searching for the profiles of people whom you know are Egowall members

People You May Know

The People You May Know feature makes it easy for you to expand your network to other Egowall users with similar interests.

It is especially helpful when you are new to the service and have not yet identified a specific person that you want to connect with.

Follow these steps to find People You May Know:

People You May Know

  1. Click on the Dashboard button.
  2. Scroll down as required to the People You May Know section (see image at right).
  3. Identify someone in the displayed list of Egowall members that you want to connect with.
  4. Click the Visit Profile button in their mini-profile.
  5. After their profile displays, click the Add Connection button.
  6. Click the box(es) adjacent to the circles into which the connection will be organized
  7. Click the Send Request button; a connection request will be mailed to them and a notification will show up in their Egowall Dashboard the next time they log in.

NOTE: The connection is not complete until the recipient accepts the connection request.

People Search

You are not limited to the automatic recommendations presented in the People You May Know feature.

If you know the name of a friend or colleague who is also an Egowall member, you can connect directly with them by following this procedure:

People Search

  1. Click on the Search button.
  2. Type in the name of the person with whom you want to connect.
  3. Click on the name of that person in the list of search matches (their name may appear more than once if they signed up using multiple email accounts).
  4. Click the Visit Profile button in their mini-profile.
  5. After their profile displays, click the Add Connection button (see the image above).
  6. Click the box(es) adjacent to the circles into which the connection will be organized.
  7. Click the Send Request button; a connection request will be emailed to them and a notification will show up in their Egowall Dashboard the next time they log in.

NOTE: The connection is not complete until the recipient accepts the connection request.

Managing Connections

At the time you request a connection with another Egowall member, you must add that person into circles, as discussed above.

But once established, connections can be moved between circles, added to other circles, or removed from circles altogether.

Creating Circles

Egowall has three defined circles: My Friends, My Family, and My Colleagues. The names of these circles cannot be modified.

Create Circles

The procedure below explains how to create additional, more personalized circles.

  1. Click on the People button.
  2. Click on the Plus (+) sign.
  3. Specify the new Circle name.
  4. Select the Circle type from the drop-down list: Friends, Family, or Colleagues.
  5. Click the Create Circle button; the new circle will appear adjacent to the other circles.

NOTE: Once the type of Circle has been selected, it cannot be changed.

Adding Connections to Circles

Add Connection to a Circle

  1. Click on the People button.
  2. Click on the Circle to which you want to add a connection.
  3. Pass the mouse cursor over the connection (which will appear in light text, indicating it is not part of the selected Circle).
  4. Click the Add button which appears on mouseover.
  5. The connection now appears in darker text to indicate that it has been added to the Circle.

NOTE: Connections can belong to more than one circle.

Removing Connections from Circles

Remove Connection From a Circle

  1. Click on the People button.
  2. Click on the Circle from which you want to remove a connection.
  3. Pass the mouse cursor over the connection (which will appear in darker text, indicating it is part of the selected Circle).
  4. Click the Remove icon which appears on mouseover.
  5. The connection now appears in light text to indicate that it is no longer part of the selected Circle.

NOTE: Removal of a connection is immediate and cannot be undone. The connection can be added back into the circle if desired.

Deleting Circles

NOTE: The system-created circles – My Friends, My Family, and My Colleagues – cannot be deleted.
