
13 Jul How To Choose, Place, and Move Furniture Objects In The Game
As previously mentioned, we are starting a series of posts about the enhancements to the user interface in our latest Egowall release.
We’re going to start by talking about the how-tos of managing furniture.

Because there is a lot of information to cover about this topic, we’ll split the discussion into two articles.
In part one (this post), we will focus on initial object placement, object selection (once placed), and movement of objects within the game space.

A Quick Reset For New Users
Egowall members have access to sixteen different 3D living spaces of varying sizes and floor plans.
Users select one or more of these environments and illustrate their passions and interests to visitors by decorating the space(s) with any of the hundreds of available furniture objects in order to .
They can also upload and post their own photos and change the overall appearance of the space(s), but those are discussion points for future blog posts.
Let’s dive in to learn how to manipulate those furniture objects within the game.
Placement

Select Furniture Object For Placement
“Placement” refers to the act of placing a 3D furniture object in a legal location (i.e., one allowed by the game’s physics) within a room.
To place a furniture object, log in and then follow these steps:

Furniture Detail Panel

Click the Inventory button at lower left.

Using the drop down menus, navigate to the desired Theme / Furniture type (e.g., Contemporary | Tables).

Click on one of the available furniture objects (see image above right) to display its Furniture Detail Panel (image at right).

Click the Add to Space button. This action highlights the Move button on the Palette Menu and opens the Grid Snapping Menu.

Click on the desired Grid Snapping resolution (Large/Medium/Small/Off).

Place the object by moving the cursor to the desired destination spot and clicking there.

After initial placement, you can tweak the location of the object by
-
clicking-and-dragging on the X, Y, or Z axis arrows to move the object along those axes, OR
-
clicking on the cube in the center of the X/Y/Z axis arrows to move the object freely in the space.

Once you’ve settled on the final position for the object, click anywhere in the UI to place it; that action will clear the arrows and the Grid Snapping menu. The Move button remains selected.
Selection
“Selection” refers to the act of choosing a placed furniture object for additional action (e.g., purchasing another instance of the object).
To select a furniture object that has been placed in a room, log in to Egowall and follow these steps:

Options Available When Selecting an Object

Click on the Select button on the Palette Toolbar (at the upper right of the interface) or type the “q”/”Q” shortcut key.

Click on the desired object.

Click on the name of the object, which is visible in the lower left portion of the screen.

At this point, you have two choices: Buy Now or Put in Inventory.

Click Buy Now to purchase another instance/copy of the selected object.

If you purchase another instance of the object, you will have three choices: Buy Another, Add to Space, or Put in Inventory (see image above right).

Click Buy Another to purchase another instance of the selected object

Click Add to Space to place the selected object into the current room

Click Put in Inventory to place the just purchased object in inventory

Click Put in Inventory to remove the selected object from the room and return it to inventory.

Movement
To move or change the location of a placed furniture object, follow these steps:

Click on the Move button on the Palette Toolbar or type the “v”/”V” shortcut key.

Click on the desired object.
-
Click on the name of the object, which is visible in the lower left portion of the screen.

Click on the desired Grid Snapping resolution (Large/Medium/Small/Off).

Click to place the object in the desired location.
